Before you book

Do I need a pilot's licence to fly in a fighter jet?

No. You do not need a pilot's licence to fly in a fighter jet. Every Jetify flight is flown by a qualified military-trained pilot and you fly as a passenger in the rear seat. No licence, medical certificate or previous flying experience is required for any of the seven aircraft types we book.

You complete a briefing on the day covering the ejection seat, oxygen system and radio procedure. Briefings run 60 to 90 minutes before you walk to the aircraft.

How far in advance should I book a fighter jet flight?

Book a fighter jet flight six to eight weeks in advance for most locations. Summer slots in Switzerland and Italy are typically full three months ahead, and the Hawker Hunter at Sion flies a limited season between March and November.

If you are buying as a gift, vouchers are open-dated for 24 months, so you can secure the price now and schedule the flight later.

Can I buy a fighter jet flight as a gift?

Yes, you can buy a fighter jet flight as a gift. Open-dated Jetify vouchers are valid for 24 months from purchase and can be redeemed against any aircraft or location, and the recipient books their own date directly.

Vouchers are issued by email within the hour, or sent in a printed presentation pack on request.

Eligibility and health

Is there an age limit for fighter jet flights?

The minimum age for a fighter jet flight is 18. Passengers must be 18 or over at every Jetify location, and there is no upper age limit.

Passengers over 65 are usually asked for a short letter from their GP confirming fitness to fly under G-load.

Is there a height or weight limit for fighter jet flights?

Yes, fighter jet flights have height and weight limits, and they vary by aircraft because each limit is set by the ejection seat rather than by Jetify. Typical limits are 193cm and 100kg for most aircraft, though the MiG-15 and L-39 Albatros are tighter at 188cm. Leg length matters more than overall height, and Jetify confirms the limit for your chosen flight at booking.

If you are close to a limit, tell us before booking and we will check the specific airframe at your chosen location.

Can I fly in a fighter jet wearing glasses or contact lenses?

Yes, you can fly in a fighter jet wearing glasses or contact lenses. Glasses are worn under the oxygen mask and helmet visor without difficulty, and contact lenses are fine. Tell the operator at briefing so the helmet and mask are fitted correctly.

Prescription sunglasses are not permitted in the cockpit because the helmet visor already provides glare protection.

On the day

What actually happens on a fighter jet flight?

On a fighter jet flight you arrive around three hours before take-off for a medical and safety check, a flight-suit fitting and an ejection-seat briefing, then fly for 15 to 65 minutes depending on the aircraft, followed by a debrief and your cockpit footage.

Total time on site is four to five hours. Most operators allow two guests to watch the take-off and landing from the apron.

How much G-force will I experience in a fighter jet?

Most fighter jet flight profiles peak between 4G and 6G, held for a few seconds at a time. You are taught the anti-G straining manoeuvre during briefing, and the pilot builds up gradually and stops the moment you ask.

Roughly one passenger in twenty is airsick at some point. It has no bearing on whether the flight continues.

Can I take the controls during a fighter jet flight?

Yes, on most aircraft you can take the controls during a fighter jet flight. The rear seat is a fully instrumented flying position, and pilots routinely hand over straight-and-level flight, gentle turns and often a barrel roll once you have settled.

Take-off, landing and any low-level flying stay with the pilot at all times.

What happens if my fighter jet flight is cancelled by weather?

If your fighter jet flight is cancelled by weather, you reschedule at no cost. Weather cancellations are called by the operating pilot on the morning of the flight and are not unusual in mountain locations.

We recommend building a spare day into travel plans for Alpine locations between November and March.
