Where can you fly in a fighter jet?

You can fly in a fighter jet as a passenger from eleven airfields in seven countries: the United States, Canada, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Italy and Germany. Every flight is a ride along with a qualified pilot in a real ex-military jet, and you can usually take the controls in level flight. No licence or flying experience is needed.

Fighter jet flights in the USA

Jetify offers L-39 Albatros flights from three US locations: Tampa in Florida, the Los Angeles area in California, and New York's Hudson Valley. Florida and California fly all year; New York flies from spring to autumn.

Fighter jet flights in Canada

In Canada you can fly the Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star, the T-Bird, from Waterloo in Ontario, about an hour from Toronto.

Fighter jet flights in Europe

Europe has the widest choice of aircraft. Sion in the Swiss Alps offers the L-39 Albatros and the Hawker Hunter, the fastest aircraft on the roster. Hradec Králové in the Czech Republic flies the MiG-15, and Brno flies the L-39. In Italy you can fly the Aermacchi MB-326 from Reggio Emilia or the L-39 over the Italian Alps, and in Bavaria, southern Germany, the Aermacchi S.211. In the UK, the de Havilland Vampire flies from South West England.

Fighter jet flights in Russia

MiG-29 and L-39 flights from Russia, including the MiG-29 Edge of Space flight, are not currently bookable. The Russia page explains what the programme involved and the closest alternatives.

How to choose a fighter jet flight location

Choose by aircraft

If you have a particular jet in mind, start there. The L-39 Albatros flies from six locations, so it is the easiest to fit around travel plans. The Hawker Hunter, MiG-15, T-33, Vampire, MB-326 and S.211 each fly from one airfield.

Choose by scenery

For mountains, choose Sion, the Italian Alps or southern Germany, where sorties fly among the peaks. For coastline and open sky, choose Florida or California. For aviation history, the Czech airfields fly the jets the country built and flew during the Cold War.

Choose by season and travel

Florida, California, Brno, Hradec Králové and Reggio Emilia fly most of the year. Alpine locations usually fly from spring to autumn, when the weather is most reliable. Each location page lists the nearest airport, and we can advise on travel and somewhere to stay near the airfield when you enquire.

Fighter jet ride questions

Can civilians ride in fighter jets?

Yes. Civilians can ride in privately operated ex-military jets such as the L-39 Albatros, Hawker Hunter and MiG-15, flown by qualified pilots. You need no licence, only to meet the aircraft's height, weight and health limits.

How can I get a ride in a fighter jet?

Choose a location and aircraft above, then send an enquiry. We confirm dates and the price with the operator, and you pay nothing until your flight is confirmed. Most flights need booking six to ten weeks ahead, and summer slots at Alpine airfields go first.

Can I fly in an F-16 or another modern fighter?

Not as a paying passenger. Current frontline fighters such as the F-16 only carry civilians on rare military media or VIP flights. The closest bookable experience is a Cold War jet such as the Hawker Hunter, which reaches Mach 0.94.

Is there a fighter jet experience in the UK?

Yes. Jetify's UK fighter jet flight is the de Havilland Vampire from South West England. Most other jet flights for UK customers depart from mainland Europe, with Switzerland and the Czech Republic a short flight from London.

How much does a fighter jet ride cost?

Jetify fighter jet flights start from £2,400 per person for a 20-minute MiG-15 flight from Hradec Králové in the Czech Republic. A 20-minute L-39 Albatros flight from Brno starts from £2,500, a T-33 flight from about £2,800, the de Havilland Vampire in the UK from £4,750 and the Hawker Hunter, the fastest jet on the roster, from about £6,400. Prices are confirmed with the operator when you enquire.

Is a fighter jet ride-along the same as flying the jet?

No. On a ride-along you sit in the second seat while a qualified pilot flies the aircraft. On most Jetify flights you can also take the controls yourself in level flight and gentle turns, but take-off, landing and low-level flying always stay with the pilot.
